Early Spring with the Girl Child

March 13, 2018 / by Katie Vie / Leave a Comment

Happy Spring! Well, almost.

It’s been an interesting late-winter here at the apothecary. On the very day of Imbolc, mere hours before the ritual with The Mystical Year class, I broke a bone in my foot. How’s that for initiation?

Here’s how it happened: I jumped up from my couch to dance to “Walking on Sunshine”, startling my dear 15 year old dog who was sitting next to me. He also jumped up, tripped me, and I landed wrong. I never danced a step (or walked on sunshine).

But now I can claim the nickname for this particular break with sincerity: “dancer’s fracture”.

A broken foot holds a lot of meaning for me. I am forced to slow down; my gate is labored and cumbersome. So, I allow more time for things. I prioritize my limited movement. I am mindful.

All that is to say, that was one helluva Priestess season for me. Though my foot is in “the boot” for potentially 2 more months, I am ready for the playfulness of Spring, and The Girl Child.

With all of the bright yellow daffodils and forsythia in bloom, it’s hard not to feel joy at this time of year (even though these very plants are covered in snow as I write).

The Girl Child is all about harnessing joy, play, and wonder. And it’s not as easy as it sounds.

With the Priestess, our practice was to be the empty vessel. It’s The Girl Child who helps us lure the contents. She guides us in choosing the “seeds” that we’ll grow, and inspires us toward creative and imaginative solutions.

We’d be lost without her.

In fact, “lost” is exactly when to call on The Girl Child. If you’re unclear, without direction, or feeling ‘blah’, it’s The Girl Child who can find the solution.

Use The Girl Child anointing oil for help in seeing the wonder of the world; remembering to play with all your heart; and when you need joy and play as medicine.

The aroma of The Girl Child anointing oil is clear and happy, with notes of sunny herbs and flowers, light, and yellow

Anoint your cheeks beside your smile, or wherever feels right, to honor divine happiness.

Anointing Oil components: organic jojoba oil and essential oils including Lavender.
