A few weeks ago we stepped through a gateway.
When the sun rose that morning, we entered the Light half of the year; six months with more day than night.
The Girl Child archetype greets us every year at Spring Equinox, reminding us to pay attention to the themes of springtime and apply them to our lives.
The Girl Child archetype invites us to pause and notice what nature is actually doing, which helps us honor what we’re actually doing; a mirror to our own seasonality.
She invites you to go outside and look around. She wants you to see yourself reflected in nature.
Why?
Well, to connect with it, mostly.
But in this day and age, to remind you that you’re not expected to be consistent, especially in terms of productivity.
There are seasons for things.
Earth has seasons, and so do you.
And right now, we’re in a season of budding.
Here in Asheville, the mountains are veiled in an ethereal haze. It’s not awash in flowers, or even the light-green of fresh leaves.
The palette is actually a bit autumnal, shades of russet, red, and brown.
You know what’s causing that?
Buds.
The trees are covered in buds right now, and the buds have a look all their own.
Buds have a beautiful, glistening casing that en masse is a show in its own right.
Buds are fleeting, lasting just a week or so.
They’re also vulnerable & tender. A freeze or a big wind could knock them out, affecting the future or even the life of the tree.
Buds announce transition.
They say, something is coming.
And, things are about to change.
Buds are potential, obviously.
But they are also things in their own right.
They’re not a botanical purgatory, not a less-than version of a leaf or flower.
Buds are the archetype of becoming, a phase unto itself.
Like buds, becoming is a thing too, not just something you wait out until you’ve become.
Like, how silly would it feel to march up to a tree and tell it to get on with things?
Like, hey tree, can you get this “becoming” stage over with and settle into something stable, secure, predictable?
Yeah. No.
So, at Spring Equinox this hemisphere entered into a six- month period of more-light-than-dark.
What is nature doing with this extra light?
It’s becoming.
What are you doing with this extra light?
You’re becoming.
The Girl Child archetype reminds you of the sacredness and necessity of this stage, the beauty of the bud itself.
The Girl Child wisdom helps you give yourself time to become.
Embrace transition as a thing unto itself. Revel in the process.
Don’t rush it. It’s to be savored and appreciated, the way you savor and appreciate springtime, because it’s fleeting, after all.
Tender. Ephemeral.
That’s Girl Child medicine.
The Girl Child archetype helps you celebrate becoming; a transition where change is guaranteed, but the outcome is unknown.
Change is guaranteed.
But the outcome is unknown.
Celebrate the mystery, celebrate the movement.
Celebrate, but don’t rush, your own unfurling.
