We do invocations in a ritual for many reasons.
It’s a way to honor the land where we to live and it’s features.
It’s a way to “call in” the support of nature, angels, ancestors, and guides.
But my favorite reason is to kindle genius and light up the psyche.
When we face a direction and “call to it”, we are also calling to our own interior landscape, reminding ourselves of our multifaceted capabilities.
In this Mermaid invocation, you will remind yourself that you are just as hardwired to be a boiling geyser as a quiet acre of ice, and that there’s a time and place for both.
Use this invocation in your Mermaid rituals, as a writing prompt, or a daily reading.
You might like to read this as you anoint with The Mermaid oil each day at sunset.
Mermaid Invocation:
Beloved East, I call to you and your Waters. I call the head waters, the first drops of rain, and the place where the water leaves the earth. I remember that I am good at starting new things.
Beloved South, I call to you and your Waters. I call the rushing rapids and the big rivers, swollen with rain and snow melt. I call the hot springs and boiling geysers. I remember that I am a force of nature, active and passionate.
Beloved West, I call to you and your Waters. I call the deepest waters, the deepest part of the creek, the river, the lake, the bay, and the ocean. I remember that I am also deep, and storms only affect me at the surface.
Beloved North, I call to you and your Waters. I call ice and solid water, the water that drips in the caves, and the still, secret pools of the mystics. I remember that I am solid, stable, and comfortable in the quiet. I remember that I can build things one droplet at a time.
Beloved Center, always with me, I call the inner rivers of lymph and blood, and I honor my own tides and currents. I remember that before I look to others, I look within.
love and Mermaids,
