In ritual, invocations are used not only to honor Nature, but also as a way to open and unfurl each participant’s mind, reminding her of the wisdom, capacity, and potential she has access to.
Speak this invocation aloud or read it silently, use it for yourself or a group, say it daily or only in ritual. You will Know what’s right.
Beloved East, I call to you and your ancestors. I call to the brand-new ancestors. I call the ones who remind me to rise each day like the sun, the ones who help me get back up and begin again, like the day. When I face the east, I remember that I know how to begin again, and I honor that wisdom and mystery.
Beloved South, I call to you and your ancestors. I call the activists and agitators, the change agents, the movers and shakers. I call the ones who warm me and move me when I am frozen and stuck. When I face the south, I remember that I am also warming, and an active force of nature. I honor that wisdom and mystery.
Beloved West, I call to you and your ancestors. I call the ones who help me let go, releasing what is done the way the tree releases her leaves, the way the sea welcomes the setting sun. I call the ones whose depth is a sanctuary. When I face the west, I remember how to release and let go, and that my own depth is a sanctuary. I honor that wisdom and mystery.
Beloved North, I call to you and your ancestors. I call the ones who know when to rest into stillness, the ones who know the medicine of quiet. I call the ones who know that dreaming is done in the dark, and that the future begins with a dream. When I face the north I remember how to rest and how to dream the future into being. I honor that wisdom and mystery.
Beloved Center, always with me, you are the well of wisdom, the fireside where I find safety, comfort, and nourishment. You are my own gravity, the core of my being. You are the living ancestor, the one in-the-making. When I face my Center, I feel my own wisdom and mystery.
And so it is.
love and wisdom,
