Spring Equinox is Friday March 20.
It’s a day of balance, when Earth floats level and the hemispheres experience equal light and dark.
It’s also a threshold, a day that marks the beginning of the Light half of the year.
Here’s a check list and a little ritual to help you honor Spring Equinox and start Girl Child season off with potency.
Checklist:
1. have some Girl Child anointing oil on hand
2. set aside some time for ritual or contemplation, ideally at sunrise when the sun is crossing the horizon
3. design a ritual that might include the Year Ahead Oracle Spread, stepping into a new chapter, crossing any threshold toward something and/or away from something, wonderment as reverence, or honoring your curiosities
4. create a Spring Equinox altar with items that represent Girl Child and Spring themes like sprouting, budding, emerging
5. connect with your Patch of Nature
6. review the Seasonal Vow that you’ll be taking
7. have a Girl Child playlist ready, if music will support your ritual
8. use the following invocation to prepare your space and psyche for a potent ritual
Invocation:
Face the East.
Say: Beloved east, we call to you. We call to the joy of a new day, blossoms on the air, and the sounds of newly arrived songbirds. We call the first whispers of curiosity that carry us along our paths of wisdom. When we face east, we welcome this wisdom and honor it within ourselves.
Face the South
Say: Beloved south, we call to you. We call to the sunrays beaming through budding branches, dancing on raindrops. We call the exuberance of play and the excitement of fun. We call all the hopping, fluttering, prancing, and leaping creatures, celebrating springtime. When we face the south, we welcome this wisdom and honor it within ourselves.
Face the West
Say: Beloved west, we call to you. We call to the rainbows that dance through spring rains, and the showers that bring the flowers. We sing back to the peepers in the ponds, delighting in their aquatic chorus. We give thanks for the depths of Earth that held the hibernating ones of the plant and animal realms safe and sound all winter. When we face the west, we welcome this wisdom and honor it within ourselves.
Face the North
Say: Beloved north, we call to you. We call to the tree trunks, gurgling with rising sap. We call to ground, heaving with sprouts breaking through the surface. We call the stability of soil and all types of “growth mediums”. When we face the north, we welcome this wisdom and honor it within ourselves.
Face Center
Say: Beloved center, we honor you. You, the ultimate fort and clubhouse where we play and imagine to our heart’s content. Beloved center, safe playground of our dreams, we welcome and honor your wisdom.
